Razor-qt: A New Linux Desktop Alternative - bivenscovest

Among GNOME 3, Ubuntu Linux's Unity, and Windows 8's Underground, there's no denying that desktop environments have go a hot topic in 2011. More specifically, mobile-inspired interfaces are becoming more and more commonplace, challenging users to take in a whole new-sprung paradigm in the screen background human beings.

Information technology cadaver to be seen how well users finally accommodate to these new-style environments–specially those who have been victimization more traditional interfaces for a long clip–but meantime, it looks like other contender has emerged.

Razor-qt is a new, lightweight desktop environment based on the Qt framework that aims to offer a new alternative. IT's at once uncommitted for free download; the screenshot infra offers a taste of what Razor-qt looks like.

The software offers "an later, effortless-to-use, and truehearted desktop environment based on Qt technologies," in the words of the project team behind it. "It has been custom-made for users who prize easiness, speed, and intuitive interface."

Open source Razor-qt also works comfortably with "weak machines," the squad added in a web log post earlier this month.

Currently in interpretation 0.4.0, Razor-qt recently gained a joyride for launching applications, new configuration tools, and a standalone library for XDG standards, among other features. Too included in this latest version are fixes for retention leaks, reinforced translations support, and a new theme, among many another other features.

The desktop surroundings is apparently related to KDE, and it whole kit and caboodle with most windowpane managers. Now included in it are a panel, desktop, application launcher, settings center, and sessions, but it's upwards to users to decide which of those components to use.

All Most Choice

As mobile-style, touch-enabled interfaces turn the norm on desktops as well, freehanded users a prize will increasingly be a distinguishing feature that sets operational systems isolated, I predict. If leastwise much of those choices can offer non-raiseable-style alternatives, all the better.

How leave Razor-qt fare against numerous long-regular competitors? That remains to be seen. In the meantime, though, more tasty is always a good thing.
