I have a CC42 RTZ mower that is 7 years old. I have had the muffler fall off twice while moving (I have read that this is a common problem with the CC RTZ mowers). The first time it happened, I looked at it and did not see a way to reattach it. The way the muffler is made at the factory, once the fasteners break off, there is no way to simply reattach it. I had a new one installed at my local mower repair shop for about $150.

Recently, that muffler fell off (they seem to last about 3 yrs) and I was determined to figure a way to get the muffler back on without paying the exorbitant repair cost. My solution was to weld a nut to each of the four bolt holes on the muffler. Then, put it up against the holding bracket, and simply screw bolts (w/ lock washers) into each of the nuts. In my case, a friend did the welding for nothing, but the cost would be minimal compared to having a new muffler installed. Note: If the nuts are not perfectly centered when welded on, simply drill out the holes in the bracket to be a little larger and you will have the fudge factor that you need to get the bolts to align to the welded on nuts.

Cub Cadet RZT S 54 - Not real happy with this equipment. Would not buy one again. For a company that has been building lawn equipment for years, you think they'd have learned something. I clean the machine each time I use it. It has 14 hours on it and there is NO paint left under the deck. Those cleaning ports where you hook up a garden hose to clean under the deck? Utterly useless. All you end up with is wet gloppy cooked spinach. No grease fittings on the spindles, either. I always like to maintain my equipment. The guards on the spindles trap grass underneath as well. There are numerous "grass traps" that try to prevent you from cleaning the deck. The floor of the mower does not have sufficient drain holes, either. The "safety devices" are another turnoff for me. The kill switch in the seat shuts off the PTO if you move even slightly. You cannot reverse without shutting down the PTO. Not everyone is a moron. Even Craftsman has a switch position to allow you to reverse without killing the PTO. Unless the throttle is in "choke" position, the engine will not start.

This lawn mower has been kept in immaculate condition. Three belts and a pulley problem, hundreds of dollars plus the time to resolve these issues.

This spring we had to replace our Cub Cadet that we had for 5 years due to it being damaged in our shed collapsing this past winter. Our old Cub was not a zero turn, but we decided to go with a zero due to our large lawn. We purchased it from the same dealer we bought our first Cub from. A couple days after we had it my husband went out to fire it up and now our lawn. About a half hour later I seen my husband outside with cover to the engine area taken off. He said it had started making a noise so he was going to take a look, but then decided best to just contact the dealer we bought it from.

When he went to move it off the drive and go call the dealer the lawn mower would not start. When we contacted the dealer they made us bring it back and then said they would look at fixing it. Well finally they said they did not know what was wrong with it and gave us a new one but we had to take the deck that was on the one that broke. And then told us to come and get the new one. We said "no, you bring us the new one." They did. I think they should have brought us a new one with a new deck and picked up the broken one. It wasn't our fault a brand new Cub Cadet didn't work and we should not have been inconvenienced. This is a reflection of the dealer and Cub Cadet and customer service.

Have a new (less than 5 hours) LTX 1045. Haven't used it for about a month because of no rain. It is totally dead. Hard to find any information about the battery, problems, troubleshooting, etc. online or in owner's manual. Just making a comment, haven't given up yet.

Bought new mower 3 years ago and didn't have it 6 months and it wouldn't start after it got warm. Took it back to the dealer and they said it was the starter, so they replaced it under warranty. After a couple weeks it started doing the same thing. So I replaced the battery which fixed that problem. Then one day while mowing one of the tie rod ends fell off. I reinstalled it, tightened the bolt and went on. Now both of them keep falling off and it's out of warranty. I will never buy or recommend a Cub Cadet mower. Very dissatisfied customer.

Mowing deck belt has already been replaced twice the year and twice last year. Slips off easily but very hard to get back on. Belts just sheds, you don't get your money worth out of it. The new mowers have better belts. It would be nice if they (Cub Cadet would give a summer supplies of belts), I might be able to keep my grass cut.

Bought my Cub Cadet LTX1042 04-12-2010 for $1596.44 from Tractor Supply Company. Mowed fine first couple of times, then things went wrong. Broken belts, damaged/bent blades, wheels and brackets knocked off, bent spindle. Took it in for service one time and it was covered. This model has the junk timed deck that Cub Cadet was so proud of at the time. Now won't even acknowledge that it was installed on a mower produced by them. Biggest POS I have ever bought. Certainly not made for use on the average lawn, maybe something smooth, like a concrete pad of blacktop road. The tractor itself runs great. Anyone want to buy it?

I have owned my GT2542, which I bought new, for several years. Other than the time I installed the front bracket upside down and caused the belt to rub and smoke like a banshee, it has been great!!! I read a lot of posts where people complain about their tractors. Most are LTs, not GTs such as mine. The only issue a have of late is the steering being EXTREMELY hard to turn. Look, I have even towed my neighbor's minivan home when it broke down up the street!!! Bottom line, if you buy a LT, expect a Light Tractor and the issues accompanying it.

I purchased a new Cub Cadet GTX 2000 in 2013. I have had Cub Cadet for years but this is the first made by MTD. They have really cheapened the Cub Cadet line that use to be high quality. First, the motor won't stop running unless you choke it and then sometimes it blows fire out of exhaust upon shut down. Have caught grass on fire once then the deck bearings that you can't grease blowed up and the belt flew out of mower while running at top speed and the double pulley hit the wall and bounced back and hit the house. Luckily no one was standing close. These machines are not built as strong as the original Cub Cadet line. They are an accident waiting to happen. Will probably buy John Deer next time. I have owned 5 Cub Cadets in the past but they have gotten as cheap as a MTD. The MTD line has destroyed a good name, Cub Cadet.

We bought a Cub Cadet riding mower in April 2014. It was advertised as 0% financing. When we got our first bill it had a "promotional fee" tacked on and raised the price of the riding mower by $125.00. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, you can find our lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Franklin County State of Missouri case number **.

Bought it brand new from Home Depot spring of 2013. Only used about six times last year, due to the rainy summer. Got it out of the shed where it is kept when not in use this spring. Ran it one time around the lawn, belt broke.... Paid for new belt, replaced it, continued to mow, when suddenly smoke came billowing out of the front of the tractor... I might add, this machine has been taken care of like a baby, cleaned after each use last year, cleaned and all things checked before use, oil, tires, gas... I honestly thought the tractor was on fire. I turned the ignition off and smoke was billowing out. I had my son help me push it to an area behind our home and away from our daughter's home. I was scared it was going to blow up...

After a while, when it cooled down, we waited till my husband got home from work. He started it up and drove it back to the shed area. By the time he got it there, it was smoking again from the front. He immediately turned it off, let it cool down and lifted the hood off, checking to see if there were any burn marks. We bought it from Home Depot, paid cash for it and it is still under warranty for engine and parts repair... Finally after nagging my husband to go back to Home Depot and demand service - we paid with good money, we expected what we paid for - they made an appt with a lawn repair place in Gadsden. They came and picked it up and said it would be seven to ten days till we got it back, but they would try and have it back by the 4th of July.

We got it back the 3rd. I drove it one time just up the front lawn, and it started smoking again. I knew they were still in the area, called them again. They said to run it again for an hour, if it still smoked call them back, but they thought a drop of oil got on the muffler when they fixed the gasket, and it should work okay. They also told me we should consider renewing the warranty on it... After only one use, it again started billowing smoke. Has been at the same Gadsden repair shop for ten days. They called my husband yesterday, said it was going to be delivered back to us that day sometime in the late afternoon. Around 4:45, they called to say that even though they had replaced the gasket, they were going to take it back to the shop, and fix the valve, but they would have to order it...

So evidently the "new gasket" was leaking oil and they saw that, took it back to the shop, and now we are in limbo. It will soon be two weeks since we have had our mower. Home Depot won't even consider giving us a replacement lawn mower and these people at the shop seem to know there are major problems with the Cub Cadet mowers and Home Depot... why can't somebody help the honest consumer, and give us our money back or replace the tractor altogether, and not another Cub Cadet???

Cub Cadet LGT-1054 - I bought this for almost $3,000 at Home Depot last spring (2013). It has been in the shop twice because the electric blade PTO wouldn't work and it just quit again last Friday. So far I have spent $500 on this mower and been without it over 5 weeks due to this constant problem. Warranties are totally useless on this piece of junk.

I have a LT1050 Cub Cadet bought from Lowe's. It will only run with the choke about halfway out. The owner's manual said at the time of printing there was no printed material for the engine. I cannot find anywhere on Cub Cadet or Kohler where it shows a carb like the one on this mower. I thought Kohler was going to be better than Briggs & Stratton, but at least on a B&S you can get parts.

I purchased a Cub Cadet Lawn tractor from Home Depot in fall of 2010. Had under 50 hours of use. Changed oil like manual said at 25 hours of operation. In spring of 2013, motor began making awful loud noise. Discovered there was a hole the size of a dime in the crankcase. Called Home Depot and they said there was nothing they could do. Told me to call Cub Cadet. They told me warranty was over and there was nothing they could do. They told me to call Kohler engines.

I called Kohler engines and they told me there was nothing they could do. I called Home Depot again and stressed my unhappiness with their product. They refused to accept any responsibility. Called Cub Cadet again. They refused any attempt for time to be satisfied. In essence, I have an almost new Cub Cadet tractor that is not usable sitting in my shed. No one wanted or was willing to accept responsibility and try to help.

CONSUMERS that purchase a cub cadet mower beware! Carolina junction customers beware if your mower cut high on one side and down to the dirt on the other side, it's not your mower it's your land that is causing the problem, or at least that's what Charlie at Carolina junction is telling me and the cub cadet warranty department after they were told they had to replace the machine itself because it had been return to them 3 times for the same problem!

2012 cub cadet LTX1040 - Bought new 3/19/12 from tractor supply. 3 new deck belts, new spindle/bearings on right side. Two weeks later left side bearing wore out! Sometimes will not pull up slight incline! Repair shop said it is a piece of junk by design! No grease fittings for blade bearing. No way to fill transmission fluid (everything is sealed). Pulleys from day one were not level. I was told MTD was making small fortune on parts supply!! Please help stop this company from taking advantage of the innocent public! I'm 63 years old and have bought Seven new lawn tractors... nothing compares to this. They are built to hopefully last Two Years... A Shame!!!

Motor starts and runs well. I often have belt issues, but could live with that. The mowing deck does NOT move the grass out, and I'm not talking about wet grass. I always wait til late in day to mow. Even then, EVERY time I use the mower for an hour or two, the deck clogs up and I can hear the blades singing against the grass. I am adding pics of what the hell I'm talking about as if you've never heard this. I try to buy American made products as much as I can and thought that a $2K lawn tractor should do the job. I HATE this damn thing. Thanks I feel better now.

SLTX 1054 - As mentioned in many other post, it's a belt issue, not to mention that I later found out the engine had already been taken apart and it was only a few months old. My brother bought this mower at Lowe's, (reconditioned)? I helped him load it and take it home. Two weeks later I called him to see how the mower was doing. He said the belt won't stay on for longer than 10 minutes. I went over to see what the problem was. Upon taking the deck off and looking at the belt routing, it's an obvious design issue. There is no way a belt will ever stay on this type of mower when the drive pulley is 2.5 inches higher than the deck pulleys. The idler pulley cannot compensate for this much difference, no matter how tight you tension the belt. The answer is to weld another pulley to the bottom of the drive pulley (same size) and run the belt on the new pulley. This makes all pulleys run at the same height. You will never lose another belt and it extends belt life too. Email me Cub Cadet. There is no reason all of these people have to go through this issue for years and years.

The first LTX 1040 I purchased from Home Depot was consuming oil and blowing white smoke at start up, so I was within my 30 day return option and I took it back. The riding mower also would not shift easily from F to R and the parking/cruise control was not functioning. I was hoping the store manager at Home Depot would offer me a similar John Deere model, but he said he couldn't do that. I agreed and looked at the Ariens rider for the same price, but I could see another bunch of trouble. I left with a replacement LTX 1040 figuring that I wouldn't get two bad ones in a row.

The replacement is smoking at start up and making a click/clunk noise when I put in gear, so I guess I was wrong on two bad mowers in a row. I'm sure something is going to happen to the transmission/shifter, but I'm not sure just what. The Kohler Courage engines are junk from what I've been reading and from my own experience.

I say unless you live in Maine or a state where there is a implied warranty law, I'd stay away from Cub Cadet, but I'm going to return this second Cub Cadet and give up on Cub Cadet anyway. For you that have had problems with Cub Cadet after the return period is up check and see if your state has a implied warranty law on consumer goods. This law may just help you at least get repairs or something.

The belts will not stay on deck if you change height or go over rough ground. Will come off if you go half speed or more in clean low kept grass. This season alone (its only 18 June) I have had to replace 6 broken belts, 3 belts that twisted until would jump off the minute you engage PTO. That's 9 @ $36.00 = $324.00... Replaced starter and battery, tires on left front won't stay on rim. Runs hot, burning smell always... Can't level deck (dealer tried), fuse relay problems...

This is all this season which is only from mid April, May mid June. I can't afford anymore of Cub Cadet... That cheap muddy worked circles around this piece of junk. I trusted it was good machine and company. Bad mistake that I cant take back... So long Cub Cadet, hope I can stop someone else from making this mistake. $1000. A season in maint. is completely crazy... Not counting high cost of the low grade of equipment. Out of morals, I cannot honestly sell this junk to anyone else.

I purchased a Cub Cadet 1554 in 2006. Bluntly speaking, this tractor has been the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. Something constantly breaking on it and the cost for parts is a joke. It's nothing more than a MTD with another name on it. A very poorly designed garden tractor. I will never buy another MTD (Cub Cadet) product again. Ever.....

Bought this mower new on 05/07/2014 at Elite Power Equipment in Springfield, TN, had for 6 days and had to take back. No fluid in the hydraulics. Obviously, never filled when they serviced after purchase. Got mower back and the following week it started having a bad vibration in motor. Took it back to shop on the day after Memorial Day as they were closed that Saturday, Sunday and Monday. They still have mower but did give us a demo. They are waiting for Kohler to come out and look at engine. We gave almost 7500 for this mower and have put approximately 5 hours on it (it had 1 hour when we bought it and they have put hours on it testing). They are checking to see if we can buy demo.

They do not want to take a hit on the mower we purchased and I told them neither do we. They want to see what they can offer us as trade. We have gotten nothing out of this mower but headaches. We had previously purchased a tank and it has 950 hours on it and has never given us a minute trouble. However, we will not be purchasing another one or referring anyone to buy one as we had in the past. We basically bought what we consider a lemon and so far nothing being done about it.

Every season this mower breaks one or both brake cables. This "monster" should mow year after year w/o incident but it ain't gonna happen. It's a piece of junk, don't buy one. Then when you make the repair yourself for obvious reasons Cub Cadet voids your warranty because you had the brains to fix it yourself. Cub Cadet needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. I've never seen such a piece of junk in my life. I have a 15 year old Snapper that I can't kill and this Cub Cadet can't make it through one season w/o breaking and leaving you high and dry. If you challenge Cub on the failure they simply tell you it was designed for years of service. Really? I'll be dumping this piece of ** and lowering my blood pressure ASAP.

Bought this Cub Cadet from Home Depot 2009. Had it serviced when needed. Did not know about the 20 hp 46" and the problems Kohler has with this Courage single cylinder until 265 hrs later. Engine blew up hole in the block. Called service to checked it out and yes engine needs to be replaced or new mower. Service telephoned Kohler and complained about other customers had the same problems so, Kohler agreed to replace the short block. I have three acres and I feel maybe underpowered. I'm looking at the new 2014 series 7000 1050 with 24hp - haven't decided yet. Will not buy the power plus warranty after reading all the small print - not worth 269 dollars for 4 years. Factory is 3 yrs and 120 hours so you get 1 extra year of what. Did much research and now I know after 8 hrs on new mower, change the oil and change oil at 50 hrs and so on.

I have owned and seen several newer Cubs break down easily and have been not built near as well as they should be for the price you pay. The older IH cubs were built heavy built to last and should be built AGAIN!! I'm tired of this new stuff breaking down. I'm trading my new cub in for a old IH cub with a K series Kohler and not look back!

SBR Lawn Care uses a Cub Cadet to mow over 100 different yards a week and their mower doesn't have problems. If it does, it might be running over a rock and the blade gets out of shape. You replace the blades, not a big deal.
